What is BLUWOOD?
BLUWOOD is the national brand name of wood framing components that come with a life-time transferable warranty against moisture, mold fungus growth, rot decay fungi and wood ingesting insects, including termites and carpenter ants. All six sides of each BLUWOOD component is precisely coated by company and third party inspection certified independently owned and operated BLUWOOD coating facilities licensed to utilize the proprietary technology and two-part coating system.

Fungi as well as other wood destroying organisms and insects all like the identical conditions that lead to problems, namely moisture and humidity. Burst water pipes and leaky pipes are obvious moisture sources, not as well known are penetrating and rising dampness, then there are cracked walls, window leaks, blocked or damaged roof gutters…the air itself. Air with high relative humidity carries a lot of moisture and warm air can hold much more moisture than the cold air. If warm air with high humidity is cooled it will drop its water when it reaches the dew point, "condensation". Water vapor produced during the day when it is warm condenses at night when it cools. New construction itself produces a large amount of moisture from construction materials like concrete and plaster and exposure to the weather. There can be as much as six tons of water in a new home, which can take up to a year to dry out properly. The good news is - BLUWOOD's Infusion-Film is absorbed by wood and as it cures then crosslink’s with the wood cellulose fiber to form its a sub-surface and topical water repellant, semi vapor permeable film that resists excess moisture penetration and retention while also allowing sub-surface moisture vapor to naturally escape and evaporate. Because of this, right from the start you have a better conditioned board that better maintains dimensional stability for reduced cupping, checking, swelling and nail popping. Builders have reported substantial savings in reduction of unusable lumber (20-30%) that also effects labor cost and most importantly reduces customer dissatisfaction. The second part of the technology is an EPA Registered fungicide and insecticide (Borates) that provides proven protection from rot decay fungi and wood ingesting insects, including termites. Over the last 5 years over a half a billion board feet of BLUWOOD components have been utilized when building new or renovating existing structures.

Where is it used?
All of the wood components that comprise the structural framing packages ; sub-floor, wall and roof components, dimensional lumber, panel and engineered wood products on new construction single and multi-family or commercial structures. BLUWOOD's Prime Perfect wood conditioning and preserving pre-finish primer for fascia, trim boards and siding products as well as interior wood products; exterior BLUWOOD primed surfaces are required to be top coated with a paint, stain or clear sealer. BLUWOOD's Prime Perfect primed components are available in blue or clear primer colors.

Why is controlling moisture important?
The modern home environment can easily provide all of the moisture, humidity and dampeners needed for successful fungal growth. Decay and fungi causes more damage to wood than termites; just a 2% loss of weight can reduce the strength of a piece of wood by as much as 50%. Any builder could be held directly or indirectly responsible for mold and decay fungi issues by failing to take preventative steps. In a survey of homes in 24 US cities nearly 50% of them had moisture problems and the majority of fungi found in their homes were types known to be able to cause chronic sinus and respiratory infections. A number of both common decay and mold fungi are opportunistic and if given the chance will take advantage of a person with a poorly functioning immune system. In rare situations, fungi can be parasitic and pathogenic (grow on or kill us). Why would you take a chance? Build Smart, Build Green, Build with BLUWOOD.
